LAPAROSCOPIC SURGERY
Laparoscopic Surgery is a technique of operating within the abdomen ( laparos: means abdomen) by using small incisions. These vary from 3 to 15mm depending upon the surgery being performed. Almost every organ in the abdomen can be operated upon using this technique.
The benefits to the patient are enormous. Relatively painless recovery, much quicker discharge and an earlier return to normal activity. There are less chances of wound infection and post operative hernia formation.
Laparoscopic surgery started in the early nineties and today has developed into a fine art. Technology continues to evolve making this type of surgery easier for surgeons to perform. The latest is the development of the robotic system( da vinci) in which complicated manouevers can be made to perform surgeries, often not possible by the human hand.
